To review your variables in Google Tag Manager with Claude or ChatGPT, connect your Google Tag Manager account to PaidSync.ai and ask the assistant to list the variables in my workspace, which shows the values your tags and triggers can read. It reads only.
Variables hold the values tags need, such as a page path or a data layer field. Two read tools list them:
list_gtm_variables lists the user defined variables in a workspace.list_gtm_builtin_variables lists the built in variables that are switched on.list_gtm_variables and list_gtm_builtin_variables only read your account. That is the full set you need to review your variables.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| list_gtm_variables | Lists your variables |
| list_gtm_builtin_variables | Lists built in variables |
A trigger on form IDs needs the form variables switched on. If a trigger misbehaves, this list is a good place to look first.
These steps use Claude to review your variables. PaidSync.ai also works in ChatGPT, and the prompts are the same.
Sign up at paidsync.ai, then connect Google Tag Manager on Google's own sign-in screen. There is no API key to paste and no config file to edit. Use the Google login that has access to the container where you want to review your variables.
Open Claude's connector directory, add PaidSync.ai and sign in. Ask "list my Google Tag Manager containers", then pick the one where you will review your variables.
Ask for the user defined variables.
Ask which built in variables are enabled.
Note any variable your planned trigger will need.
Each variable you rely on should be in one of the two lists.
Use these two prompts to review your variables, in this order.
list_gtm_variables and list_gtm_builtin_variables only read Google Tag Manager, so nothing you do to review your variables edits your setup.Every Google Tag Manager tool PaidSync.ai offers is listed on the Google Tag Manager MCP server tools page, including the tools used to review your variables.
In Tag Manager, open Variables. With PaidSync.ai both lists come back in chat.
Built in ones are provided by Tag Manager and switched on. User defined ones are created by you.
Yes. PaidSync.ai connects Google Tag Manager to ChatGPT and to Claude, and the same tools run in both, so you can ask it to review your variables the same way you would in Claude.
