What it cannot do

  • Manage server-side containers. Web containers only today.
  • Manage users or permissions. Access control stays in Tag Manager.
  • Install custom templates from the Community Gallery. That is done in the Tag Manager interface.
  • Delete the Default Workspace, or a trigger or variable that is still in use.
  • Preview most writes. Only creating a tag has a dry run, so your assistant's confirmation prompt is the check.
  • Edit your website code.

  1. Add PaidSync.ai to Claude Code

  2. Connect Tag Manager and pick a container

    Ask Claude Code to run connect_gtm and open the Google sign-in link it returns, using the login that has access to your containers. Then list_gtm_accounts and list_gtm_containers show what you can reach. This is separate from your Google Ads connection.

  3. Audit first, then change

    Start with an audit of the container. Any new tag lands in a workspace, you preview it, and nothing goes live until you confirm the publish.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a developer to add conversion tracking?

Not to set up the tags. Your assistant creates the tag, trigger and variables in a Tag Manager workspace, and you preview and publish. PaidSync.ai changes your Tag Manager container, not your website code, so the events or pages a trigger listens for must exist on your site.

Can it publish to my live site?

Only when you confirm. Changes land in a workspace first, nothing reaches the live site until a version is published, and publishing needs an explicit confirm. Most Tag Manager writes have no dry run, so keep your assistant's confirmation prompt on. Deletes need a second explicit confirmation.

Is there an official Tag Manager MCP server?

No. Google lists no official Tag Manager MCP server (checked 29 Sep 2026). Stape and Markifact run third-party ones. PaidSync.ai reads and changes Tag Manager with 39 tools, next to GA4 and your ad accounts in the same chat.

What can it not do?

It targets web containers today. It does not manage server-side containers or user permissions, and custom templates from the Community Gallery are installed in the Tag Manager interface. The Tag Manager MCP page has the full list.
