To set geo targeting in Google Ads with Claude or ChatGPT, connect your Google Ads account to PaidSync.ai and ask the assistant to target and exclude locations on a campaign, which controls where your ads can show. Locations are set with Google geo target IDs, and the assistant looks the IDs up by name for you. Each change returns as a preview.
Location targeting decides which countries, regions or cities can see your ads. Claude looks up the IDs by name, reads what is set, then changes it:
search_geo_targets searches Google geo target constants by name and returns the IDs, such as a city, a region or a country.list_campaign_targeting lists the campaign's current location and language targeting.set_geo_targeting sets the locations a campaign targets and, optionally, the locations it excludes.search_geo_targets and list_campaign_targeting only read your account. set_geo_targeting changes it.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
| search_geo_targets | Turns a place name into a location ID |
| list_campaign_targeting | Shows what the campaign targets now |
| set_geo_targeting | Writes the target and excluded locations |
The IDs are numbers, for example 2840 for the United States and 2826 for the United Kingdom, but you do not need to remember them. Look up each place by name and check the result, because many places share a name across countries.
These steps use Claude to set geo targeting. PaidSync.ai also works in ChatGPT, and the prompts are the same.
Sign up at paidsync.ai, then connect Google Ads on Google's own sign-in screen. There is no developer token and no Google Cloud project. Use the Google login that has access to the account where you want to set geo targeting.
Open Claude's connector directory, add PaidSync.ai and sign in. Ask "list my Google Ads accounts", then pick the account where you will set geo targeting.
Ask for the campaign targeting so you know which locations are set today and whether any are excluded.
Give the assistant the places to target and exclude. It searches the geo targets and shows the matches, with country and type, for you to confirm.
Ask it to run set_geo_targeting. Check the preview lists the right IDs, then approve and read the targeting back.
Read the campaign targeting again and check the targeted and excluded locations. Review the location report after a few days to confirm spend sits where you expect.
Use these two prompts to set geo targeting, in this order.
search_geo_targets and list_campaign_targeting only read your account, so the lookup before you set geo targeting changes nothing.set_geo_targeting runs as a preview by default, so you see the change before it is applied.set_geo_targeting runs.set_geo_targeting can show a preview but not apply it. Tokens are encrypted at rest.set_geo_targeting is applied, the change is logged, on a best-effort basis, with a before-and-after result.Every Google Ads tool PaidSync.ai offers is on the Google Ads MCP server page, including the tools used to set geo targeting.
